Just a very small experience (I Begun to use mine week ago)
I only Try to cut small pieces of Wood for scrap booking.
3mm balsa: full Power, speed 1000mm/mn, 5 Times
0,8 Wood (I don't Know what but hard one): full power, 500mm/mn, 10times
1,5mm aeronautical ply Wood: even with full Power, 200mm/mn no cut after 25 times, perhaps with 35 or 40?
1,5 Samba ( sort of hard balsa): full Power, 3times 600mm/mn + 2 Times 400mm/mn.
paper: Full Power high speed give better aspect
3mm expanded polystirene: not cut at all due to the white color and shinny aspect
Sorry I have no more experience
@cncchris That doesn't look like an EleksMaker machine, controller or laser.
First you need to identify what board, are there any markings around those 2 connectors?
The laser has a 12VDC power input and a TTL signal input, so should be simple enough to connect up. If you have a volt meter you can check the outputs on the board (just be careful you don't short the pins).
It probably has Grbl loaded on the Nano clone already but likely an older version so you would want to upgrade once you get it hooked up. You don't need the laser to do basic testing of the machine / motors / controller.
Thanks, I went to the laserGRBL forum and discovered someone had already developed code for a custom button that would center the laser on the center of the image on the workpiece. In low-power mode this tells me where the image is going to be.
@bcnx EleksCAM requires you to change your computer localization settings, if you prefer not to do that you can use a program that is actively updated and supported such as my T2Laser. The trial is free and I also provide driver and firmware that is optimized so you will get better performance (faster and smoother motion) as well as features such as dynamic laser power and real time overrides.
