I received it with a bad servo and a bad stepper motor. Since Banggood was of little help I ordered both from amazon after replacing them all seemed to work but the pen up and down was reversed. I finally realized that I built the assembly backwards. Since I am an electronics Engineer and not a mechanical one I was looking for electrical problems (silly me ) anyway it is now working. I just should get replacement parts from Banggood for the defective ones that came with the unit.
@LEAT I replaced the capacitor. The one I used is about 4mm taller than the original, not a problem on the eleksegg but you would have to leave the top Perspex cover off on the elekslaser. The board will run if you just remove the capacitor but I do not recommend it as I believe it is there to protect the drives from reverse current.
Thanks for all the ideas. I have not had a problem with pen adjustment yet as all my trials have been with the same size ping pong balls. I can imagine there could be an issue with the taper on the pens and it would not be hard to change the vertical pen arm to have a slot and thread two holes in the disc that goes on the stepper, I might give it a go on my next attempt. The plastic springy servo connector is interesting but I can see problems forgetting to set the correct S value and giving it a good stretch, I am playing with a few different bits of software to generate the gcode and in some I have to replace the Z moves with the correct S values. so far I have not had a problem with the pen going down and have tried a golf ball and it coped with the dimples ok, being aluminium and not plastic it has some weight to it. My major problem was with the play in the hinge, I am getting acceptable results now with my new version but I am sure it can be improved on further. I am lucky that I have access to CNC machines at work so I can try these ideas out in my dinner times and as its all just a hobby the budget is not such an issue, if it helps improve future versions then that's even better.
For me only way to make multicolour drawings, is to use Inkscape enhancement tool from EleksMaker. It seems to be now only way in EleksMaker family to make different layers for draw with different pens.
Unfortunately making different colour layers with the same size jpg or bmp files did not work for me as drawings are shifted.
Maybe it works with just svg files. I did not tried it as not all svg files are suitable for correct drawing.
Same here. Missing 4 x M3 screws. Secondly, rubber rings are supposed to fix into both ends of the egg metal round blocks, not being stated in online manual. Software libusb0.dll has to include from elekscam x86 firmware directory into both system32 and syswow64.
Software Elekscam cannot rotate wordings 90deg, resulting word print cannot go round circumference of egg. There is no pattern line template available as in the video except included few pictures which takes exceedingly long time to draw. I reckon I might be too late for Easter on this small problematic machine.
The analog (not digital) servo pen lifter "servo horn is not the same as seen in video or in pics". I had to align 90deg angle with slight gap on the surface on lifted point so that it won't make redundant marks on the print. Screw holding servo horn is fragile, do use short version.
Inkspace only produces art designs and export to .PNG graphic extension. Both Elekscam and Inkspace can crash on certain clicks for windows 7 and 10 64bits. What we want is line art "pattern" template as in video, not pictures that took a decade to print on an egg. We want visible movements to affirm the success of the product.
Pingpong Balls has been tested on the draw although the "programs have a lot of flaws".
Diagram for assembly is vague and incorrect at certain pages. Please do not rush product without proper documentation even at kickstarter. Do supply sufficient and correct parts for all future clients to support you.
