Playing with spray painted tile

I agree with tug, wow these are fantastic. Amazing detail.

  • I'll wipe the tile with rubbing alcohol but that is the only prep for the tile. Then I spray paint it and let it cure overnight.
I open the pics into Corel Paint Shop Pro. I resize the pic and set the Pixels Per Inch to 254.
I then process the pic with a custom script written by Sean Murray who runs "That Dude With A Laser" facebook group. He has one labeled Basic Processes, and one labeled Da Wood Script. The Basic processes script is the one I use for tile.
Join the group and you can find it in the "Units" section.
It adjusts some settings and then dithers the picture. Save as BMP to the desktop.
Load into T2Laser, verify that the size what I want. Select BLACK AND WHITE mode. The pic is already optimized for lasers, to run in dithered mode or grayscale will reprocess the pic.
If I'm engraving on white tile painted a dark color I invert the pic. If I'm engraving on a dark tile painted a light color I do not.
I run about 1500 speed, but different tile and different spray paint will require different power levels. Start low and work your way higher. If you have gaps, change the Resolution from 0.1 to 0.09.

Pic resized to 150mm wide X 255mm high. PPI set at 254.
    Then I run the script.
Edited pic is saved as a JPG here for forum compatibility, but BMP is better.

@KarrMcDebt Now that impressive and lovely choice of art too.

  • Those are all outstanding, well done!
I don't suppose you know what the scrip does exactly? I'm not a facebook user and don't have Paint shop, but I do have other graphic s/w that I sure has te same settings?

    Thanks

    David

@DavidF It's just a dithering algorithm, I tested many when I developed T2Laser and the one that's included seemed to work the best. If there is something better I would be happy to add it to a future version.

  • @Zax Ah ok, Zax. I haven't played with that option in T2. Good to know it's in there.

    Cheers

    David

  • @KarrMcDebt Not quite sure you mean by "white tile, painted chalkboard, "then white" for the last mermaid picture. Can you explain the "then white" bit or is that a typo?

    Cheers

    David

@DavidF I'm guessing since the design in black it's showing the chalkboard paint when the white paint is removed, so if you laser over the black you'd get back to the white tile. If you had a black tile you could skip a step ;)

  • @DavidF
I didn't have any black tile to paint white, so I painted the tile with chalkboard paint, let it cure overnight and then painted a second layer with flat white spray paint.
