Oh... and yes I know that they are a bit pixely but thats because I deliberately used a small sixe to get an idea of the precision... the geiger piece is only 7cm high by 5 wide so I was fairly impressed.

burn baby burn!
Well, I can at last officialy confirm that I have lost my engraving cherry!
I did a couple of pictures onto some ordinary corrugated cardboard just to see how it went. The judge dredd looks great but in reality it actually burnt through the top layer giving it an almost 3d look! So I dropped the laser power to 50% and did the bear which was absolutely spot on! Then to really test it I did a piece of geiger art to see how well it dealth with shade gradation and I have to say that apart from maybe wanting the laser 10% more powerful perhaps it really did come out nice... I would be happy to produce it as a finished item on wood.
And I have to say that ZAX's T2 software is the schiznitz! I produced these images after 30 minutes practice with his software... now that is user friendly...props to you Zax!
RE: Laser module defect
Yeah... had the same problem with mine... it was the laser module that was shot however mrmister raises a salient point...looking at the laser module from the side the plug is on the wires should go white black red from left to right.then... looking at the plug from the front of the driver board for your machine the wires should go red black white left to right...these diagrams may explain it better: ![alt text]( image url)

RE: PC in a Box!
@nottingham82 lol.... I see what you did there!
The next phase will be to make a carry box for the laser as the objective is for me to be able to take this out on the road with me and do custom name badges/tags/door signs etc or even personalise my woodturning.
PC in a Box!
So... having now got a working laser machine I soon realised that I would most likely be operating it in my shed rather than the living room due to the smoke! So I went to my local car boot this morning and picked up a second hand base unit, monitor, keyboard and mouse for the princely sum of £15.
But this created another problem...I also do a lot of wood work and wood turning in there and the wood dust would not do the PC any favours so I decided to build a "Box PC" to try and mitigate the worst effects. So I spent a further £15 on some 1/2 inch plywood and some polycarbonate and voila... here it is...enjoy!! 0_1502640709431_P1110872.JPG ![alt text]( image url) ![alt text]( image url)
RE: My New Laser
yep... snagged it.... now... I have managed to do a Grid and I even tinkered with a basic shape but it would only do the first quarter of it... I assume this is because it is limited in the trial version? Also I am having a little difficulty in setting where the laser starts from... anyone point me to a good tutorial?
My New Laser
Well folks I finally took possession of my new laser module from Eleksmaker this morning so I am hoping that by this afternoon I will have singed my first bit of wood! On the subject of postage for the laser although it came quite quickly (just over a week) I also incurred £23 of import duty so just be aware that this is an issue. That being said if the laser finally works then I really dont mind too much.
Anyway... the real reason I came on here is I am after @Zax your T2 software is it?...I forgot where to get it... I have stripped that benbox rubbish off and also removed the eleksmaker software and once I have had a go with your trial version will be looking to purchase as to be fair I have heard nothing but good about it! Please can you let me know where I can get the trial version please?
RE: Intel丨EleksMaker Intel Edison automatic passes, converted high speed laser engraving machine
Wow.... just stumbled across this and have to say.... the translation makes for difficult reading but I am in awe of the tech in these photos...If I didnt have the wife then this would definitely be my living room!!
RE: At Last!
@nottingham82 thanks for that... I think however that given the price versus performance I am leaning towards the 2.5w until I gain a bit more experience with the machine and software... and I will be avoiding banggood like the plague given the feedback I have seen! They seem just as bad as the Chinese seller I had on eBay.
@Zax ... hadnt realised the CO2 wouldnt do metal so thanks for the heads up... and just scared the bejesus out of myself looking at the price of the fibre lasers! lol... pretty sure I would be on the way for a divorce if I purchased one of them!!
Anyways... thanks for all the input ... it has been most illuminating and has definitely helped me make the choice so for now I will order the 2.5W module and grab Zax's trial software initially and watch this space for my first burn!!
