  • @tug

    Hi Tug,
There is a unit available - my business makes them & is in process of a crowd funded global launch - price in brackets below.
It will accept glasses of all sizes - champagne flutes, wine or beer glasses, bottles & other tubular objects to 40cm long.
Has a gear reduced motor drive, outer frame to make it post-proof & options to fit a solid state 2.5 watt / 2500mW laser & EleksMana board.
the X-Carriage will also adjust for tapered glasses & bottles, so the laser will remain in focus on tapered pint glasses etc.
Sliding clamp to secure parts internally or externally secured from 30mm dia > 100mm dia.
£260 (£180) without laser, or £330 (£300( with 2.5 watt laser & mother board... + post outside UK.
Includes eye protection shield, rubber feet & ready assembled to work out of the box.
Built from Black Anodized Extrusion / Green Translucent Acrylic.

Not wanting to breach rules or advertise here, but happy to assist if you want one.. or parts description & dimensions/materials to build your own from what ever you have laying about.

If of interest, pictures to follow when i get back to work in a week - on holiday at the moment.

  • this is the final product simple effective and works very well. I can supply the full kit either in flat pack or assembled ready to go for £89 plus postage. If within the UK should not be more than £3.99 to £5 depending on who I use to dispatch, other countries please ask.

I paint the glass with water soluble paint, then wash it off on completion.

  • you have to elevate the machine to enable the laser to focus on the object your etching, but this can be done as you can see using boxes or maybe a stand.

  • Very impressive looking rotation unit, & the simplicity makes it even better

  • I've been considering doing this type of thing for a while now, but it looks like you have a nice, clean, elegant solution.

I'd like to get info on how much it would cost to ship this unit to the US (San Antonio, TX). I have the laser setup already.

  • I am happy to charge £20 for postage to the USA and if it's more I'll cover that so trying to make it as economical as possible, however the raw materials including the step motor are not cheap.
If anyone would like to place an order I can ship within the week. please state if you want flat pack build it yourself of ready to run. with the minimum of fitting.
    Thanks. Tug

  • OK they are now ready for ordering, the length has been adjusted to cover most items you would ever need to etch on a round surface.
I can supply them flat packed or assembled.
Flat packed will cost you £86 or $ 112 plus postage from what ever country your in please ask.
Assembled will be £93 or $122 plus the postage as above.
Dispatch will be within two weeks from order, delivery is out of my hands so depends on your location.
if there is anything else you would like to know please either post here or email me at:
    Thanks for looking.6_1551707815526_laserjig-7.JPG 5_1551707815526_laserjig-6.JPG 4_1551707815526_laserjig-5.JPG 3_1551707815526_laserjig-4.JPG 2_1551707815526_laserjig-3.JPG 1_1551707815526_laserjig-2.JPG 0_1551707815526_laserjig-1.JPG

  • To clarify the rail length has been increased from 20cm to 35.7cm this is not shown in the photos. but every one will be at the new length.

these pictures show the parts involved except the step motor which I am awaiting delivery of, you have everything you need to have a simple inexpensive unit for etching tubes, glasses , flask's and many more items.

  • this picture shows all the components you will get with the unit, you will see that some parts are assembled so as to make your life a little easier.

  • yet another exsample of the versatility of the rotary add-on unit.0_1552719209307_IMG_20190315_171414.jpg

Note the rollers are on the sides and if the arms were crossed over the size of the object to be laser etched would be that much greater

I now have a unit in stock for immediate delivery.

  • Any chance on you releasing the STL's for the printed parts? :D

  • @Aaron-Labiosa you are kidding me right, I spent hours designing this and getting the parts right and you want a copy, yep fine send me £40 and their yours Tug

  • Your answer is understandable, but Aaron's question was legitimate ...
Have you ever heard of "Open source" ? Luckily enough for all of us, Arduino's team has a different approach !

  • @tug Does your motor/chuck assembly tilt so that a top edge of a taper is horizontal otherwise the distance between laser lens and work surface will vary as the spot travels along the taper?

  • @smokeman I have not seen any unit that can tilt as the bottle changes distance from focal point, I'm afraid mine does not either, any work I do on a bottle like that is usually confined in size the what ever the level area is, so what i'm say is, no it cannot tilt so keep the design size to enable the focus to remain, having said that a little slop has never given any problems so a slightly curved tumbler usually comes out ok.

  • @Gand' I am well aware of 'open source' and have submitted items for it but in this event I have designed and offering a complete working unit for sale, and as far as I know there are no manufacturers willing to give away the plans/designs for nothing even if they agreed to part with them. so although I understand your comment cannot see how it apply's to this occasion.

  • @tug I was reacting about your "You are kidding me right".

I know several projects where someone sells a finished piece, but offers every information for other to make it for free !

For example Makerfr's 3D printer : he sells the frame of the 3d printer, but all sketches are available for anyone to make their own !

But i fully understand and respect your will to get paid for your work !
(and i think your unit is impressive and price worthy !)

  • I think have a problem with the application. Please help me.0_1555408102981_6EF751BD-A397-4099-A227-633B3526A05E.jpeg
