Honeycomb base
-
Hi, I just had a general question about honeycombs.
I read that cutting performance was improved with having a metal honeycomb base under the cutting surface. I was just wondering why? Is it because the fumes are able to escape from below without disrupting the laser?

@maguro Air assist will help the most but having a path for fumes to exit the back of the material helps provide a complete cut.

it is a shame the stuff is so stupidly expensive... and always seems to only be available in silly-arse small sizes...

@Grant-B You can buy 2' x 2' sheets of mesh for ~$20 or for a cheaper alternative use lath which is only $10 for 2' x 8', just fix it to a frame and it works well.

I have been using punched aluminium sheet, which seems to work well for me.
